About
Last year on January 31, 2008, Cal Poly participated in the largest national teach-in, Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America.

Cal Poly’s event attracted over 4,000 people, bringing together students, faculty, administration, staff, community members and politicians in a non-partisan discussion about global warming solutions. Of the 1500 Focus the Nation events that happened across the country, Cal Poly hosted one of the largest.
This year, Cal Poly is once again leading the nation and planning another large event: Focus the Nation: Building a Sustainable Economy.
This nationwide educational symposium is taking place at over 1000 university campuses simultaneously on February 5, 2009. The event will engage students, faculty, staff, business leaders and politicians in a non-partisan discussion about solutions that will both solve climate change and revitalize our economy. Additionally, at Cal Poly we are extending the event to February 3rd & 4th to include a Green Job Fair, a Sustainable Project Showcase, and a variety of student led sustainable living workshops.
GREENING of the EVENT
In order to minimize the impact of this event, we are implementing the following measures:
- All flyers are printed on a minimum of 15% post consumer waste paper and will be collected and recycled after the event.
- Yard signs are reused from a local campaign.
- All t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton.
- Food and catering events are designed to be as zero-waste as possible.
- Event programs are printed on 100% post consumer waste paper and designed to use as little ink as possible.
